Elite Cymru continues its valuable backing of Alex for the second year running. The programme, run by the Sports Council for Wales, is aimed at providing the most highly promising and potentially elite sports competitors with a wide range of support to assist them in fully achieving their potential.
It is an achievement in itself to be included as a member of the scheme and Alex is also one of only three motor sport competitors to be selected for the programme. Alex gained continued support having satisfied conditions of a review measured against clearly defined performance plans and targets.
After successful pre-season testing in British Formula 3 and currently in the process of finalising the sponsorship deal for 2010, Alex is eagerly looking forward to getting behind the racing wheel again as soon as possible.

To celebrate St David's day, F1 followers' website www.f1badger.com has a feature on Tom Pryce, the last Welshman to race in Formula 1. Tom was tragically killed on track in 1977 and since then no Welshman has reached Formula 1. F1 Badger asked Alex about his ambition to follow in Tom's foot steps and race in F1. Driving for Motul Team West-Tec, Alex enjoyed being back in the seat after the winter break and had a productive start to the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 season.
With most of the test being beset by wet conditions and fog, dry running was limited to the afternoon of the second day when Alex showed his potential by recording a lap time just a few tenths off the pace, despite it being his first ever run on new slick tyres. On course to bring his times down further he was thwarted by the last few minutes of the test being lost due to a red flag.
John Miller, Team West-Tec: “Alex has done just four days in Formula 3, almost all of it in wet conditions. This was his first ever new tyre run on F3 slicks, although he has had two new sets of wets! He worked hard to complete the programme though, and showed very well compared to the opposition, improving lap-on-lap despite being denied a final improvement by the last-gasp red flag stoppage.”
After the weekend break Alex will be out again with West-Tec at Rockingham on Monday and Tuesday 1st/2nd March

After a short break over the Christmas holiday Alex returns to a vigorous keep fit programme in readiness for the 2010 season. The quiet backroads on Anglesey are ideal for a 35 mile morning sprint on his bicycle or a jog through the local nature reserve. For something different Alex drives up into the Snowdonia mountains with his friends for a mountain bike expedition - a picturesque but nontheless testing exercise regime.
